Deepika Padukone is the actress of the century. She is ruling the blockbuster charts and any movie which bears her name is a sure shot hit. She is currently at the top of her own performance as well. She is a rapid learner and after learning from her mistakes she rises up.
Last year she met great success with Padmaavat, her blockbuster movie and also great joy after her marriage to another great actor and her longtime boyfriend Ranveer Singh.
Deepika Padukone was born on 5th January 1986 in Copenhagen, Denmark. She played badminton till state level under the guidance of her father Prakash Padukone. She stepped in the fashion industry at a very young age as a fashion model. She worked with top-notch modelling agencies at a tender age of 18 years.
Deepika has a sibling Anisha Padukone, she is also a badminton player. Even after being the daughter of a famous badminton player, it was not easy for Deepika Padukone in the early days of her career. She has worked hard all along to reach where she is today.
She left Bangalore for Mumbai to chase her dream of becoming an actress. Her first break came when Himesh Reshammiya selected her to be a part of his music video album Tera Suroor in 2006. After that, there was no looking back.
She literally got a dream debut against Shah Rukh Khan in Om Shanti Om (2007), the movie was directed by Farah Khan. The movie went on to become the largest grosser in 2007.
Even after the initial success, it was not a rosy road ahead. Her next three movies Bachna Ae Haseeno, Chandni Chowk To China and Karthik Calling Karthik turned out to flop on the box-office. She did not lose hope and waited for the right script to come her way.
Eventually, Director Imitiaz Ali cast Deepika against Saif Ali Khan in Love Aaj Kal (2009). The movies and her character both garnered lots of love from the public. The film turned out to be a box-office hit and she also got nominated for a Filmfare Award for the Best Actress.
Later Deepika was seen in multi-starrers such as Housefull (2010), Dum Maro Dum(2011) and Aarakshan (2011) which performed well at the box-office and the hearts of the public. These were average hits. There was still something missing from her aura which kept her from winning it all.
In the year 2012, Deepika got signed by Homi Adajania for Cocktail. This movie was a sure shot hit. It won hearts, swept the box-office and she also got nominated for Best Actress for Filmfare Award. After this, we received back to back hits like Race 2 (2013) and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani(2013) from her.
In the year 2013, Deepika again got a chance to work with Shah Rukh Khan in Rohit Shetty’s comedy-drama Chennai Express(2013). The movie emerged as the biggest hit and Deepika was called the Box office queen in the year.
Later on, she gave bigger blockbusters back to back. The blockbusters included Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela(2013), Happy New Year (2014), Piku and Bajirao Mastani (2015). Deepika’s first women-centric movie came in the shape of Padmavat (2018) based on the story written by Amir Khusro.
The movie received a great response in the country as well as overseas. The co-actors Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor also received accolades for their performance. The movie was directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
